Episodes #09 and #10
(31 July -1 August 2010)
This week on “Poverty No More”, we take a look at the power of the purse, the power that you and I have each time we make a purchase . . . as well as the impact that businesses can make when they sell their products as well. We look at social enterprises, Fair Trade products and an innovative concept that creates giving with every commercial transaction.
RESOURCES – Social Enterprise
The Social Enterprise Association of Singapore has a directory of social enterprises.
Visit the PATH marketplace at VivoCity on the first and last weekend of each month and read more about it in “Creating a Social Marketplace” by Elim Chew.
On the programme, we also shared an example of a social enterprise called Gift and Take that sells products made by disadvantaged and marginalised communities, including abused women, autistic children, landmine victims and low-income families.
RESOURCES – Fair Trade
CafeDirect is a brand of Fair Trade coffee, cocoa and tea.
Villagexchange is a Singapore company that sells Fair Trade clothing, jewellery and other items.
